Perhaps not everyone knows that when we speak of Gel Nail System we can make reference to two different Treatments and Working Methods: the Nails Extension in Acrylic and that with Professional Uv Gel Nail, the latter always adopted and followed at our Affiliated Pics Nails Salons!
To better understand which are the substantial Differences between these two Working Techniques it is fundamental to tell you the specific characteristics of these two Products, so different from each other, and thus discover their different use! Let's start immediately....
We begin precisely from the Acrylic, which represents the most known and “oldest” method in the history of Nails Extension!
First, it is important to know that this Method foresees the use of a mixture composed of different types of Powders (resins) and an Ethylmethacrylate Catalyst Liquid, a monomer commonly called EMA.
This is why this technique is often also called "powder - liquid method".
The union of the Acrylic Powder (constituted by Polymers) and Liquid (Monomer) triggers a chemical reaction of Polymerization - that binds together the Monomers, transforming them into Polymers - thus giving rise to a compound having high viscosity and initially malleable. But already after a few minutes and without the aid of Nail Lamps, the compound starts to autonomously harden to air becoming extremely resistant.
From a chemical point of view, therefore, we can define the monomers such as special reactive molecules that, joining in chains, give life to branched or unbranched polymers: after the Polymerization (i.e. the drying process), therefore, the polymer chains give life to the compound that is used for our Nails Extension!
The Acrylic name also derives from the latin Acer, i.e. pungent and acre, just like the smell exhaled by acrylic acids.
However, in years Products with much less pungent and annoying smell have been developed, precisely in order to meet the needs of a clientele increasingly attentive and aware.
In the same way, if at the beginning there was only one type of Catalyst Liquid, today there are different proposals, to guarantee thereby an ever more rapid drying and facilitate the work!
But the Differences between Acrylic and Gel System do not finish here...
In the light of what we said so far, it is easy to understand how - unlike what happens with the Uv Gel System - the step of Acrylic Application requires greater experience and a quick and excellent dexterity!
Those who adopt this Technique, in fact, will need much exercise to be able to reach the perfect consistency of the mixture obtained with the correct proportions between Powder and Liquid and, moreover, you will need a skilled dexterity in order to be able to spread the product in a uniform way on the surface of the Nail and to correct any imperfections even before the process of solidification starts!
The Session of an Acrylic Nails Extension has a duration of about 1 hour and a half and requires a careful and constant Refill for maintenance every 2-3 weeks, depending on the speed of the natural regrowth of the Nail: the growth of the Nail must be retouched and "filled", to avoid that it creates an aesthetically unattractive step.
Also the Procedure for of the Acrylic Removal is different compared to the Gel Nails Removal!
This product, in fact, can be effectively removed with the aid of a Remover.
Generally we proceed with a brief filling of the Nail surface, to be able to remove a bit of thickness and, at this point, we leave the Nail soaked in the Solvent or we apply cotton pads soaked in Gel Nail Polish Remover on the surface of the Nail for about 20/25 minutes!
If carried out correctly and with Professional Supplies, Acrylic Nails Extension is a working method able to donate a natural appearance and a particularly resistant finish to Nails.
The Gel Nails System, instead, is among the most recent and appreciated Professional Work Methodologies!
This Method is based on the use of a UV Gel, i.e. a fluid and already finished mixture, chemically composed by completely odourless and photo-curing Acrylic Oligomers. Like the Acrylic, therefore, the Gel Nails is part of the great family of Acrylates but it is composed of three elements: monomers, additives and photoinitiators...and here lies the main difference between these two Nail Supplies!
The Gel Nails require exposure for a few minutes to UV Rays emitted by appropriate Lamps so that the process of Polymerization starts (also called Catalysis) and the product perfectly solidifies and dries.
This main characteristic - i.e. being a Photo-Curing Product – makes the Gel Nails far more malleable compared to the Acrylic and make its production "simpler" in terms of time and dexterity!
Once applied, it won't be necessary to work it in extra fast times to avoid it solidifies earlier, but we will have all the necessary time to create our Bead and give to the Nail the desired shape before proceeding with the Catalysis in UV or LED Lamp!
Obviously, as we now know, also the Procedure relating to the Gel Nails Removal is very different than the Acrylic Methodology!
The only possible Technique to effectively and safely remove the Gel is, in fact, the Filling: this Phase may be carried out using traditional Professional Nail Files or with Nail Drill.
